Kabalana Beach is a hidden gem on Sri Lanka's south coast and is only 300 meters from Casa Tikiri. It offers a spectacle of crystal-clear water and soft sand winding between small coves, hotels and towering palm trees.
UNIQUE ATMOSPHERE
You won't find one beach the same in Sri Lanka; each has its own vibe and its own why.
Our favorite is undoubtedly Kabalana Beach. Clear water and golden sand, large enough that it is never crowded. Wooden sunbeds with leaf roofs for shelter from the sun and perfect waves for beginners and experienced surfers alike.
The surf spot at Kabalana Beach is known as "The Rock" and is considered one of the best surf spots in Sri Lanka by both intermediate and advanced surfers. Easily accessible from Kabalana Beach. While beginners will find perfect waves by staying in the beach break, with a sandy bottom and shallow water.
If you prefer to relax in the sun or shade no problem. You can enjoy a fresh juice at one of the improvised beach bars or cool off in the shallow, crystal-clear water.
As the sun goes down, the sky turns pink and people walk on the shoreline. One of the best memories you can take home from Sri Lanka is a sunset at Kabalana Beach.
THE BEST TIME
Kabalana beach changes with weather conditions and seasons. To see Kabalana in its full glory, we recommend visiting during the peak season, from December to April, when the sun shines and the beach is wide and allows for long walks. During these months the waves are perfect for surfing and the beach lively.
From May the beach slowly begins to shorten and the sea becomes rougher, until it almost disappears completely. Around November Kabalana then begins to lengthen back to its former glory.
HOW TO GET TO KABALANA BEACH
Casa Tikiri is located a short distance from Kabalana Beach, easily reached by a pleasant walk of about 5 minutes.
Exit the pink gate and turn right, at the end of our small road to the right and then straight ahead to the sea. In high season, when the beach is long just cross the road near the crosswalk and you will be there. Enter the beach and walk to the left, the beach will get wider and wider and you will start to see the wooden thatched sunbeds. When the beach is shorter, however, you need to walk about 300 meters along the main road and then enter the beach once you pass the large hotel with the Egyptian statues.
